The 2009 Star Trek prequel/reboot was well received critically and commercially but it has to be said the project flew over our heads somewhat. With Noel Clarke joining the cast already featuring Simon Pegg though, the sequel might grab us.

As polarising a figure in British film as we have these days, Noel Clarke cut his teeth in TV drama, making the most of roles all young actors are expected to play [The Bill, Doctors, Holby City, A Touch of Frost] before he landed the job of Mickey Smith in Dr Who, a role which fired him into public consciousness. His self-written smash films Kidulthood and Adulthood further cemented his status as one of the names to lookout for and it’s clear that his reputation has expanded all the way to Hollywood where director JJ Abrams has cast him to play an as-yet unnamed character aboard the starship fleet in the upcoming Star Trek sequel.

Clarke will be joined in the cast by Sherlock Holmes himself [no, not Robert Downey Jr] Benedict Cumberbatch who will reportedly take the role of the film’s bad-guy previously expected to be Benicio Del Toro.

The tentatively titled Star Trek 2, is scheduled for a May 2013 release.

We know how much you love a bit of sh*t-stirring

We know how much you love the Twitter beef, so being the nice (sh*t stirring) people we are, here’s the latest…

The sun may have shone for the first time this weekend, but that didn’t stop the twitterati from beefin’ harder than ever.

Rumbling on from an argument which started last week (in which Lethal Bizzle accused N-Dubz of copying him), Tulisa dedicated a whole 119 word rant to the Bizz calling him a “tw*t”, “Wat a cat lethel is, his career is dead so he’s cattin hype… he’s jus doin it 4 fame… Amateurs eh? I’m about 2 embarrass u lethal”. In reponse Bizzle tweeted “Lol I hear CAT Dubz I mean N dubz talking some claim fame bo=*llocks? Listen I’ve been famous from 2001 and been rich from 2005. Duku URSELF!”

Meanwhile, Giggs admitted to being unimpressed with the Rihanna hype, calling her a “regular gyal”, claiming “Bruddas gas about rihanna,she’s alright but i can find the equivalent in the hood. Right now”.

Reflecting on this years Oscars ceremony, Noel Clarke tweeted “Weirdly relieved that one person didn’t get OSCAR as I’ve heard from reliable sources that the ego has got out of control”, but refused to name and shame.

Chipmunk reflected on the Twitter beef overall, claiming “Twitter makes me lose respect for a lot of artist”

Always the voice of reason, 1Xtra’s Max said it for all of us, “Sometimes I really think people how no clue ?? dissing each other on Twitter handle your business in the right way…”

And finally, winding up the weekends Twitter beef, Wiley cussed pretty much everyone and deleted his account (again)!

One’s a BAFTA award winning director, the other’s a member of every 15 year old girl’s favourite boyband

One’s a BAFTA award winning director, the other’s a member of every 15 year old girl’s favourite boyband… but fans can’t tell them apart…

Whilst travelling through London this morning, a fan excitedly mistook Noel Clarke for a member of the 2008 X Factor finalists, JLS. Tweeting this morning Noel Clarke claimed “Just had a kid n his mum ask if I was in JLS”.

Never one to disappoint, rather than explaining who he actually was, Noel “said yes n moonwalked away” (well, actually he didn’t, but with hindsight he wished he did).

Having carefully analysed each member of the MOBO award winning band, we can only assume the fan mistook the Kidulthood star for 23 year old JLS’ JB, who, despite being 11 year his junior, Noel arguably bears a passing resemblance to.

In other news, someone seriously needs to start a JB fan-group. While all the other JLS members have some serious Wiki pages to their names, the biog on this poor guy consists of just three sentences. Is JB the most forgettable member of JLS?

Apparently 4.3.2.1 has been removed from YouTube...

According to BAFTA award-winning, Noel Clarke, the teaser for his latest film, 4.3.2.1, has been banned on YouTube.

In a message posted by the multi-talented actor, screen-writer and director, on his Twitter profile this morning, the blame was placed on the promotion of another (un-named) production, “So our 4321 YOUTUBE teaser has been banned. Don’t need too many guesses which production caused that to happen… Cheers HATERS.”

Whilst in further comments on the films Facebook profile it was claimed the clip was banned for being overly explicit, “YOU TUBE has BANNED and took down the unofficial teaser for 4.3.2.1 for being too rude and full of nudity!”

Accusations out the way… Whoever or whatever is to blame, as one Facebook follower duly commented, “What a way for some good publicity… welldone Youtube did you a favour”.

Trailer inside too...

BAFTA award winning director, screenwriter and actor, Noel Clarke, hit back at the criticisms that his latest endeavour, 4.3.2.1, is a glossy remake of Kidulthood, on his blog.

The movie, which follows the lives of four girls over three days who are (unknowingly) connected, involves a host of stars including Michelle Ryan (where has Zoe Slater been?), Eve, Emma Roberts, Ben Drew (aka Plan B), Adam Deacon and Bashy.

The unofficial teaser was made available on YouTube last week…

…and with over 30,000 views in four days, the comments came in thick and fast. Overwhelmingly the response was positive, but some viewers complained the Kidulthood and Adulthood director had simply ripped-off his earlier productions with a glossier, star-studded cast;

“This kinda looks like a star studded remake of kidulthood and adulthood I hope it isn’t coz i so will not pay to watch a remake” complained one viewer. Another asked “IS THIS ADULTHOOD 3?!” Whilst another commented “too samey from Noel in my opinion…”.

In response Noel took to his blog hitting back at the criticisms, maintaining that he is an innovative and original director who wouldn’t let his fans down;

What does bug me A LOT is people dismissing it as the same old thing as before. “why don’t he change actors” Why does he do the same old thing.”

Let me ask you this. As the person who bought Kidulthood to the masses, and whether you like the film or not, at the time that it came out there was nothing else like it. Then Adulthood was made, and yes it was a sequel but it took things to a different level.

But I ask you, as the person that bought you those films. At the time, new and innovative films for this country. Do you really, really think that I would make the same thing again? Do you really think I wouldn’t be smart enough to be as innovative and original now, as I was then and bring you something new?

I haven’t let you down yet…

4.3.2.1. looks set to be another modern classic from the 34 year-old 2009 Rising Star Award winner. Although the teaser doesn’t give much of the storyline away, a bit of digging reveals it’s a heist movie following the lives of four different girls who are all somehow linked to a diamond robbery… we also viewed lots of naked lesbians shooting guns. Nice.
