Marking the 50th anniversary of Jamaican independence, Island Records are releasing Sound System – The Story Of Jamaican Music, a box set of eight CDs jam-packed with massive tunes.
As if the epic mix of reggae, ska, dub and funk wasn’t enough, the set also includes a deluxe hardback book on the subject, written by the acclaimed Chris Salewicz (the genius behind Bob Marley’s biography) and featuring hundreds of photos by legendary photography Adrian Boot.
Compiled by those very much in the know, Sound System features 120 songs that provide a perfect snapshot of Jamaican culture. Including everything from Althea & Donna’s Uptown Top Ranking to The Royals’ Free Speech And Movement, from Augustas Pablo’s King Tubby Meets The Rockers Uptown to Toots & the Maytals Funky Kingston.
Sound System is due for release on 25 June.
