Quick Review: Spec Ops: The Line

After a 10 year exodus, the Spec Ops franchise returns to walk The Line

We’ve seen it all before. Beefed up, modern day US soldiers shouting profanities at eachother as they proceed to gun down hordes of non-descript terrorists in a photo-realistic, war-torn wasteland. Yawn.

Surprisingly, and somewhat refreshingly, 2K Games’ Spec Ops: The Line doesn’t comply with all of the rules of the modern day war game. To start off with, it’s set in a sandstorm ravished Dubai.  Secondly, it has a vaguely interesting story line and finally… well, actually that’s where the unique features end.

OK, so The Line isn’t a game changer by any means, but it does manage to stand out amongst a sea of played-out, cliched competitors thanks to the fresh features it does bring to the table.
