Blog: Anime/Manga Vs Cartoons/Comics

Darkz considers the ignorance that surrounds the art of Anime and Manga....

Before I introduce this side of me to you, I would like to state a few things:

1. No, they are not the same thing.
2. Yes, I watch/read Both.

3. ...Okay there isn't a third.

So yes, I spend most of my free time watching Anime and reading Manga and I've noticed a lot of people that find out I watch animes like Naruto, Bleach, Avatar always ask me the same question but with different words. The question is always "You still watch cartoons?" Or "Aren't you a little to old for that?" Well, the thing is this; Anime is and will never be the same as a cartoon and in MY opinion, this could be based on the amount of Japanese culture attached to them. Nowadays cartoons are just another way to market toys and other products and really have no stories behind them, like for example, every episode is a different story, today he's going to deliver stuff and tomorrow he's going to football. Anime is all based on a story and is structured in Sagas and Episodes.

This brings me to my next statement; Twins can look exactly the same but aren't the same person. An Anime may look exactly like a cartoon but it doesn't make it one. I'm not the heaviest Anime-Head, I only watch a few but it's very easy to tell the difference between an Anime and a Cartoon based on the graphics, words that are allowed to be used and the appearance of the characters.

You can learn life lessons from watching Anime, the characters lines are written and some sayings are coded into them depending on a character's personality. You don't get that in cartoons do you? Didn't think so.

So to be honest, I don't know if these words will persuade you to share my opinion or belief, but they say there's a strong belief in actually seeing, you know, seeing is believing, so watch an episode of "Bleach" and watch an episode of "Phineas and Ferb" and tell yourself they're the same.

Hey, I'm Darkz and I'm becoming an Anime head. Join the Team.
