RWD Talk to Delinquent!
Artist:
RWD
After storming into the UK top 20 with My Destiny, Delinquent are back with their new single I Got U featuring none other that the sexy, sultry songstress Kcat. RWD caught up with the producers to talk Bassline, being signed to the US and how they find their talent.
Why did you decide to work with Kcat again on this single?
I’ve been working with Kcat for a couple of years now and when we were producing I Got Uthis track, she jumped at the chance to do it. My Destiny worked so well we wanted to work with her on our other tracks as well. The main thing, especially in the UK is that there are good singers but not many that write and have stage presence and star quality. With me that’s really important when I work with an artist. They do it so well in The States that we have to do it just as good in the UK. We’re going to work with people that can do live and in the studio and have general star quality.
So who else are you looking to work with?
Probably the only person I can expose for now is a male artist called Jaime Dereyes. He is a male vocalist who really steps up to the bar as a writer and a vocal arranger as well. When you guys hear him your gonna think he’s a talented UK artist that can hold his own. I don’t want to say anyone else because its still under construction and I want to make sure everything’s finalised before I say.
You’re good at tapping into UK unsigned talent. How do you go about finding acts to work with?
I would say it happens by chance as the other day I got a call completely out of the blue from a mate who recommended I check someone out. Sometimes I’ll be out checking talent shows and if someone stands out I’ll approach them. Sometimes you can just stumble across it and the good artists tend to be around anyway.
Within the last couple of years, Bassline exploded in the charts. Do you think there’s still a market for it?
There’s still an market. We were always doing our form of UK dance and the bassline thing was an accident in many ways. Although we were from London we got embraced up North where Bassline was popular more then we did in the South. Then there was a big commercial exposure of Bassline last year but we’re a dance act. Our albums going to be a mixture of sounds that we hear and not just Bassline. We don’t classify our music as one thing because scenes change and as a producer you need to constantly evolve. But there’s still a strong market there.
You’ve done remixes for a lot of big US acts. How did it start?
We’ve always been remixing from a young age and I think that the familiarity of seeing our names everywhere was powerful marketing for us. We had remixes for Misteeq and Jamelia and moved on to make contacts for US acts. We had that with Usher, Ciara and J Holiday most recently and a lot of labels wanted to use our sounds to remix.
Is it true you’ve been signed to the US?
We’ve been signed in the US now to a label called Next Plateau Ent. They’ve been promoting My Destiny but obviously the US is a big place but as far as I understand it, its going really well and the remix is getting played out there. it’s a great thing to get signed over in America and we’re really confident about it.
Describe your sound in three words?
Energetic, fun and with personality.
Why should we buy I Got U?
It’s a fun songs that will put a smile on your face. A lot of tracks on the underground have anger in their music or lyrics and we have to lighten up. You only live once so you should live life as much as possible. Its coming up to winter and what other better way to cheer you up then buying a track like I Got U.
I Got U is out on i-Tunes now.
