LONDON – ROYAL ALBERT HALL – TUESDAY 14 OCTOBER
Singer/songwriter and international superstar Christina Aguilera is set to make her first UK appearance since the birth of her son at THISDAY’s Africa Rising Festival this Tuesday 14 October at The Royal Albert Hall. She will headline a star-studded line up from the world of music and fashion when THISDAY - Africa’s leading daily newspaper and multi-media resource - presents the Africa Rising grand finale in London.
Multi award winning and renowned soul singer Seal is also set to light up the London stage with a performance of his greatest and most powerful songs.
The brainchild of newspaper magnet Nnduka Obaigbena, the event is now in it’s third year and aims to showcase the positive aspects of Africa's social, political and economical progress through a series of concerts promoting the theme of ‘Africa Rising‘. The event will also feature stunning catwalk shows from top African and international designers, including Chris Aire, world famous jeweler to stars such as Halle Berry and Denzel Washington. Alongside Ozwald Boetang internationally acclaimed designer, famous for his bespoke suits worn by the likes of Will Smith, Lawrence Fishburne and Jamie Fox. These amazing collections will be modeled by the best in the business including Supermodels Naomi Campbell, Alek Wek, Tyson Beckford, Oluchi and Liya Kebede.
Archna Sawjani hooked up with Jay-Z in Nigeria to find out what made him want to join the THISDAY Festival after he performed at both the Nigeria and DC dates this year as well as being involved in the project in previous years? “I know Nduka and in him I see a young man trying to do something to bring awareness to Africa, being an entrepreneur about it, I thought it was cool,” the hip hop superstar states backstage in Lagos. “I come from that scheme myself. It was something that caught my interest, something I felt I should align myself with. You know Africa is the homeland so anything like this or the water project I worked with, where I can help bring attention to or help out the mother land, well that’s a beautiful feeling.”
Another artist who joined Hova at THISDAY in DC is John Legend. “They asked me to do it in Nigeria last year and we had a great time with them and then they wanted me to do it here and I said of course,” Legend revealed from his dressing room at the prestigious Kennedy Centre in Washington DC. “I think it’s a great show and a great idea, I’m glad to do it with Jay-Z and it’s going to be a lot of fun tonight.”
Tickets for Tuesday’s gig are available from the Royal Albert Hall Box Office - 020 7589 8212 (9am-9pm daily) or online via RoyalAlbertHall.com
