Red Bull Academy:Participants Announced!

Red Bull Academy is now in its tenth year bringing together musical pioneers and future artists from around the globe. Previous lectures include Biz Markie, The Roots, Carl Craig and M.I.A to name but a few! This year the academy runs for one month in Barcelona and will inhabit an inner city warehouse, creating state of the art studios where the musical elite will school 60 participants with one on one sessions and lectures. This year a staggering 3000 aspiring vocalists, MCs, producers and DJ’s applied, luckily the five British applicants that made it through are sick!
One of RWD’s favourites, Goldielocks is being flown over to Barcelona for a master class in production. Expect the Locks to come back shinier than ever! If Goldie ain’t your cup of tea then fear not for the Red Bull judges have selected the crème de la crème of folk, soul and electronic talent from our fair city. Stepping up to represent is soul mistress, Fatima who knows the London club circuit as well as Tara Palmer Tompkinson knows the toilets at China Whites! Her tune Unite is a summer smash and both her voice and performance leave audiences all warm and gooey inside! On par with Fat’s is south London’s Jamie Woon who has supported the likes of jazz legend Terry Callier, Amy Winehouse and Newton Faulkner. His folk/dub/ballad style engages acoustic guitar with electronic loops to create something pleasing to the ear! Not only is he handy with a geeee-tar Woon is also responsible for one of the capitals premier spoken word nights, One Taste.
Representing for the electronic massive are Subeena and Lukid both lovers of surging bass lines. Subeena creates techno inspired dubstep with samples that will take you to the far east and back again. Beena is testament that the dub scene is not completely male dominated, and has shown the boys in a tasteful and intelligent way that sisters are doing it for themselves! She is a regular at south London night D.O.T.S (Drums of the South) and plays at her local hangout, Corsica Studios. Lukid is a magical fusion of trip hop creepy bass lines and samples that fall over themselves. He currently resides in north London pumping out tunes and mixes for followers. The ‘kid has also been used by Stussy street wear for a tune on their mix cd. Lu is currently working on his album set to drop at the end of the year.
