Nu Brand Flexxx: Brand Flexxxi Time
Artist:
RWD

Saskilla, Likle-P, Boya and producer Striver make up the energetic collective otherwise known as Nu Brand Flexxx. When they’re not grabbing Gash By The Hour they’re designing their own CD covers and raving in Napa. Interview by Danny Walker
So who is in the crew and what are you up to?
Saskilla: N.B.F is Boya, Likle-P and myself Saskilla plus Striver who is the producer and we also have MCs Infa Red, Hoodlem, Darq E Freaker, Vener Remah, Brags and DJ Sketche.
All: Right now, we’re doing our thing overseas in Napa.
Explain why Gash By The Hour was so successful?
Boya: You should Ask Dizzee Rascal, Wiley, Sticky and a chunk of the raving demographic in the UK. They should be able to give you a perfect answer to that question.
What’s your top GPH (Gash Per Hour)?
S: My top GPH is around 100 – depending on climate and windspeed, obviously.
B: Ranging between 100 and 200 depending on choice of holiday resort and phone book capacity.
We like your crazy style, who were your early influences?
S: MC Hammer, Michael Jackson and Kris Kross.
B: Zak Morris was a huge influence on me. The original ladies man!
Likle-P: Da Fonz, Problem Child, Hell Raiser and Prince.
Describe your Flexxx?
All: Purchase a £14.99 blender from Argos, throw in Jimi Hendrix, TLC, Michael Jackson, Genius Cru, Mark Morrison and 2face (Nigeria's finest) CDs, chuck them all in the blender and press go!
We saw you in Dizzee Rascal's Dance Wiv Me video, how did you get involved?
B: Well my uncle’s best friend’s girlfriend’s step dad’s brother’s wife’s sister’s husband’s milk man knows some Nigerian guy (who lives on the east side of Lagos) and he used to fetch ice water for Dizzee’s aunty, so I got my uncle to holla at him [laughs].
S: [Laughs] Nah on a real we are both fans of each other’s music and we all know great minds think alike so Diz invited us down. We brought along about 20 girls too.
Tell us about Rangoose – Vol.1? What the hell does that mean?
B: Rangoose means assorted shenanigans!
L: We’ve got beats from Wiley and Joker and it features Kaos, Maxwell D and fat Narstie.
Likle-P, what is your favourite track?
L: 2000 Nu Brand.
Who did the CD artwork and what was the plan behind it?
All: We did it ourselves! F*ck paying someone else to do it. Photoshop is a wonderful tool!
Are we gonna get more videos from you guys?
S: From the CD Flavour, 2000 Nu Brand, Excuse My Cough and Nu Brand Flexxx.
Lastly, tell us about the bigger album you have in the pipeline?
S: We can’t say too much right now but it is gonna change your perception of music. What you have seen from us but x100 with huge diversity. Top 10 music with collaborations with mainstream artists. Spring 2009.
