Usher Rehires Momager
Artist:
Usher
The R&B singer has rehired his mother, Jonnetta Patton, as his manager after parting managerial ways with her in May 2007.
In a recent TXT Back interview with Usher, Mr Here I Stand told RWD the reasons behind the split. “The relationship is great,” he replied to our reader Jonte’s question. “There have been some rumours that my mother, um, and I separated on a negative. It was more that a lot of things changed, I wanted to handle my business myself. So I asked my mother to become more of a support, like it’s time for you to be Grandma, not just the protector of Usher. There’s been talk about negativity between Tameka and my mum. I found that kinda difficult seeing as my mom did Tameka’s baby shower.”
"Usher has dissolved his management arrangement with Benny Medina and has re-engaged Jonnetta Patton as his manager," the duo said in a statement yesterday (Wednesday).
Benny Medina his now ex-management explained things a little clearer. "With an artist like Usher, the bar is set really high. Whether it was management, marketing or the music, we achieved a number one single and a number one album. It is a completely new day and time in music now. In four years, his audience, demographic, and musical direction has changed. Records like Lil Wayne's Lollipop are the type of phenomena that Yeah was in 2004. I had a great time and we parted ways amicably."
"He wanted her to come back onboard, and she decided to," an unnamed source told the site. "He had really poor management and wanted her back."
RWD expect his managerial status will change in six months (or two single's) time. Whichever comes sooner.
