Last Word: Kat DeLuna
Artist:
RWD

Currently running the show alongside Bussa Bus, Rajveer Kathwadia speaks to Kat DeLuna about opera music, Akon and showing some flesh...
Last time you released a hit single?
Run The Show. It’s an amazing song cos it talks about women’s empowerment. Us women, we don’t need anyone to tell us how strong we are cos we ‘run the show.’
Last time you worked with Busta Rhymes?
On the English version of Run The Show. Oh my God (laughs). Busta Rhymes was just a ball of energy. He’s crazy and mad cool. Also when you see him he’s very intimidating, but then after a while I sweetened him up and we mixed really well.
Last time you sang opera?
(Laughs) I’m actually an opera singer and I sung opera for about four years in high school. Even on my album you’ll hear a bit of opera and that’s actually me. People think it’s a sample because people my age don’t really sing opera or there’s a stigma I feel, especially here in the United States that opera’s not cool.
Last time you had to struggle?
When we came back from the Dominican Republic it was really hard. My mum was a single mother looking after three young girls.
Last time you worked with Akon?
Akon is the exec producer of my album 9 Lives. He is the most talented, amazing person. We worked together on a song called Am I Dreaming? and when he heard the rest of my material, he wanted to be a part of it.
Last time you flashed some flesh?
That was for FHM. I’m into fashion, I’m a girly girl. I love the whole aspect of it. You have to have fun with it. You’re always working so that’s part of what you look forward to. I’m very comfortable with it.
Run The Show is out 2 June
Last time you had a MySpace stalker?
(laughs) I wouldn’t call them stalkers, I’d call them friends in a way. I do have some messages from the same people over and over again, but I wouldn’t call them stalkers though.
Last time you went on a date through MySpace?
Ugh-ugh. No! (laughs) But I’ve done competitions on MySpace for my fans to appear in my video, but not like a date. I don’t think anyone should do that...
