The UK urban scene is today in mourning for one of its brightest stars. Kaya Bousquet, 23, passed away yesterday after succumbing to injuries sustained in a tragic car accident, which also claimed the lives of two other models.
The accident happened at 04.20 on February 15 on the M1 southbound between junctions 2 and 3. The Toyota Yaris they were travelling in tried to move onto the hard shoulder but was hit by a lorry.
Patience Jackson, 22, from Dartford was pronounced dead at the scene. Danielle Campbell, 23, from Catford died later in hospital. A fourth person is still in hospital being treated for minor injuries.
The lorry driver, a 50-year-old male, suffered only superficial injuries and was arrested in connection with the incident. He was taken to a north London police station where he was later bailed to return in mid April 2008, pending further enquiries.
Kaya will be very much missed; not just a familiar face on the scene, Kaya was an important part of it. The self-titled Queen Of Clubs used to host for the Jump Off, appeared in numerous UK and US videos including Pow, Dizzee's Off To Work, DJ Drama's 5000 Ones and Jeezy's Go Getta. If there was a hot event, you could be sure Kaya would either be there or be promoting it. She was also involved in charity events alongside her sister. Kaya should also be credited for helping to open the doors for models of all ethnicities; her company UK Stunners placed many women of all skin tones in a wide number of campaigns in the promotional field.
Her loss is already being felt by many within the industry, with the likes of Mutya Buena, Sway, Triple Threat, Tinie Tempah, Zena, Masterstepz and Scottie B posting their thoughts on her MySpace page. The family have issued a statement via social networking sites asking that their privacy be respected while they try and come to the terms with their loss.
Let this be a lesson to us all to not only live our own lives to the full, but to let others too. Consider how many young people have been murdered already this year over absolutely nothing, and then think of young people like Kaya, with everything to live for, whose lives were taken tragically early. We should all remember that life is preciously short and consider how quickly it can be taken away.
Kaya will be remembered as one of our brightest rising stars. RWD would like to send our deepest condolences to Kaya, Patience and Danielle's friends and family. Rest In Peace.
