Radio 1’s DJ Grooverider Jailed For Four Years

Known for reaching such heights as receiving a MOBO in 1999 and co-hosting a long-running Radio 1 show with DJing partner Fabio, D&B’s DJ Grooverider was yesterday sentenced to four years in prison in Dubai. Convicted for possession of cannabis, the DJ was arrested in Dubai airport in November last year. On the 23 of that month police found a small bag with 2.16g and during the trial Grooverider admitted, "The drugs were in my possession and I forgot I had them in my trousers,"
Due to no-nonsense laws in the United Arab Emirates the four year sentence was the minimum sentence allowed.
Grooverider – real name Raymond Bingham – has two weeks to appeal. In an interview after the arrest he stated, "I just want this to end. I want to leave and never come back."
