T2 Goes No.2
Artist:
T2
We hate to say we told you so, but, well, we told you so!
Back in August, MTV Base and RWD dedicated our prestigious About To Blow pages to a Leeds producer called T2. We had actually wanted to run the piece for a couple of months before that, but the T2 team didn't want to kill their press too early.
Anyway, ahem, this isn't about us, it's about T2 feat. Jodie Aysha and the tune Heartbroken.
Coming in second only to Leona Lewis' Bleeding Heart (which surely must have run dry by now) T2 fended off the big guns to hit No.2. This is the first significant UK urban chart entry, since, erm Daniel Bedingfield's Gotta Get Thru This back in December 2001. Lethal, Dizzee, Ms Dynamite, Wiley...no one has gone this high since then.
We were at Hanky Panky in Sheffield this weekend with T2 when he heard the news. "It's really good, I'm really pleased," said the laidback producer. "We has high hopes but when we saw that Leona was still there, and you had Take That and the Spice Girls and all that out the same week, we did get a bit nervous."
There was no need of course; Heartbroken sold in the hundreds of thousands.
"It’s any boys dream," laughs T2. "It’s living those ideas you always had in your mind, those things you’ve always aspired to do. It’s the best feeling ever. I wish I could put you in my shoes, seriously. I’ve grown up wanting to do this music, and now years later Radio 1 are playing your music and you’re hearing it all over the place. It’s the best feeling ever."
Jodie is similarly excited. "It's amazing, I'm speechless to be honest," she told us on the phone this morning. "Little birdies had said before that we would do well, but I listened in live to Radio 1 and when they said No.2 I just went mad!"
T2 also had a message for RWD readers. "I want to thank you for the support. Keep watching, cos I've got loads more coming. Check out the album out next year, the compilation with Ts7, Mr. V out at Christmas, and also my group Addictive have Gonna Be Mine out soon, plus watch for Tamzin Wot Can I Do."
Far from resting on his laurels, T2 has high hopes both for himself, and the future of bassline:
"At the end of the day we’re not trying to keep people out, or keep the the music northern, we want it to be international. I want to see Swedish bassline, American bassline and I’ve got a good feeling that we will see the sound in Japan and Canada. Black, white, everyone has a great time. If it stays the same, I can see everyone having a great time to it."
Congratulations to T2 and Jodie and here's to the rest of bassline being about to blow too!
