Joe Budden Leaves Def Jam
Artist:
RWD
Rapper Joe Budden was allowed to leave his record label, Def Jam, yesterday. Wait, that sounds like they were holding him hostage in one of the offices or something...what we mean is, they released him from his contract!
Joe has been on hiatus since his 2003 half-a-mill selling self-titled debut album. Despite enjoying a hit with party-starter Pump It Up, a second album titled The Growth was never released, leaving the lyricist in limbo.
"I'm just happy we were finally able to cut all ties. I feel like I have all the talent in the world, but for some reason was never able to showcase it there,” said Budden.
This news comes just after Jay-Z denied that personal problems between the two might have caused Budden's release hiatus. Back when Pump... was released, the two were thought to have thrown a few lines at each other on a remix that Jay did. However, Hov, Def Jam's president, insisted there was no foul play at work.
“That [lyrical sparring match] had never influenced my decisions. You see Beanie has a record with R. Kelly," he said, referring to his former friend turned foe. "Juelz Santana has put an album out. I’m way too big of a person to do that. I would never block anyone’s blessing, because of anything personal. If I didn’t want to deal with him, there’s other people there,” insisted Jay. “I mean, why do we have a problem, I freestyled on his record. He probably made his career off of freestyling over other people’s records. If I start freestyling over other people’s records…Lord forbid.”
Budden has yet to reveal his future moves, however no doubt the mixtape game is about to feel his presence a whole lot in the coming months. "I'm looking forward to whatever God has in store for me, and Joe Budden fans should know - today is a beautiful day," he said.
Good luck to Joe in his future endeavors, we say!
