With Kanye West outselling him two to one, 50 'I run New York' Cent has been quick to backpeddle on earlier claims that he'd beat West hands-down in sales.
Talking to Angie Martinez on Hot 97 yesterday, 50 grumbled about the way his label, Interscope, set up the promotion of Curtis. "To be honest the process of selling this record hasn't been fun," he said. "It was the label. They're dropping the ball all over the place. I'll release my next album and then I'm a free agent."
Fif refused to believe that it was perhaps the quality of music, rather than the actual PR that has caused West to whip him so hard (pause). "I'm happy with the performance, but I'm not happy with the set up. We had conference calls and after we created this plan, nobody actually had a plan," he insisted.
He also announced that should he lose, he'll keep going up against Def Jam. "Hypothetically, if I came in under Kanye West, I would release a new album every time Def Jam had a priority. I would release a record verses every one of their top priorities," he said. Hmm, that sounds like he's already trying to un-retire with the hope of nobody noticing. Soz Cent, you talked the talk, now you gotta walk the walk....!
In related news, he's also being slagging off former friend Nas in an interview with the LA Times. "Hip-Hop ain’t dead. That’s just coming from an artist that’s dead.” Fiddy bitched. “Hip-Hop being what it was in his era - the 2Pac/Nas/Biggie/Jay-Z era - is dead. Right now [fans] don’t want to hear that nonsense.”
