Last Word: 50 Cent
Artist: 50 Cent

DJ Semtex catches up with the always controversial 50 Cent to get his last word on Cam, Curtis and much, much more…

Last time you were in the booth?

Just the other day, finishing up the new record Curtis. You know how Batman Begins came after Batman? This album is going to reflect the person I was before I was known as 50 Cent. You see some of my defects of character, my imperfections. Because of the competitive nature of artists, it makes them turn themselves into a superhero, even when they don’t have finances, they rap like they do. So I chose to write about some older situations where I didn’t get the best of the altercation.

Last time you considered the album title looked like a nod to Cam?
You know what was retarded about that whole thing? Why would you think you were irritating or disrespecting someone by calling them the name their mother gave them? This guy said something to me he ain’t supposed to say on radio but any popularity he gained also made people aware that he makes a lot of garbage. It backfires on him over and over – he tried it with me, Jay, Nas. Lots of artists take shots- that’s hip hop.

Last time you considered making friends with Game?
I spent six days in the studio with him - Game has no idea who I am, he doesn’t know me. I felt like a person that would be that ungrateful isn’t someone I would ever value, so there’s no point in having a conversation with him. He has no morals at all, so why would I want to be friends with him? It doesn’t bother me, and I actually make more money off of him that he does. If I wrote songs about him, I’d destroy my own cash.

Last time you saw Em?
I got Dr Dre and Em on a song called Come And Go With Me. They’re the usual suspects, we work together so often and so well that everybody should know it’s going to be super hot. I also got Timbaland, Akon, Mary J. Blige, Robin Thicke, Young Buck, Nicole from Pussycat Dolls and Yayo. I got beats from Kanye, Swiss, Polow Tha Don, Pharrell, Dre, will. i. am...

Last time you talked to Buck?
You know what it is, Buck got on the radio and sometimes when we don’t communicate, he says things in a way that can be misinterpreted. People have seen from past experiences that Buck will do what he gotta do in situations like the [Vibe] Awards type of thing. But he’s not walking around with those intentions. He was saying he doesn’t have problems with these artists, because when he’s around me, he sees I’m not stressed about it.

Last time you saw an artist with a similar spirit to yourself? How about Uncle Murda?
That kid, they don’t believe him. He says he shot nine people, but we don’t know none of those people that he shot. Nobody in his neighbourhood knows them people.

Last time you thought about the competition?
I’m not sure if you know their names, but Mims and Rich Boy have a little buzz goin’. But these records aren’t difficult to write, the content is really easy to do. So it indicates to me that people want to have fun with records that are repetitive.

Last time you thought about your No. 1 spot? Or do Jay and TI have that now?
It is difficult to have a conversation about hip hop without me showing up as the No. 1 person. Internationally, neither one of those artists you mentioned sold over 100,000 copies. A good publicist can make you appear to be as big as 50 Cent in the US, but just the US. Actually, there’s no one bigger than me in hip hop outside of the country than Eminem.

Curtis is out soon.
