Skepta Speaks About Wiley`s Retirement
Artist:
Skepta
With everyone talking about the future of Wiley, Roll Deep and grime itself. RWD took Skepta to one side and asked him his views...
It was on this very site the world first heard about Wiley retiring, since that cloudy day many have been discussing the matter. Has he honestly had enough? Is he doing a Jay-Z? What is happening with Playtime Is Over? These were just a few of the most FAQs, after a chat the Boy Better Know affiliate tells us his views. On Eskiboy and the future, Joseph Junior Adenuga is quick to state, "I think Wiley will always be himself."
After revealing to RWD he’s hanging up the microphone cos of stress, threats and responsibilities we wanted to know what the rest of Roll Deep felt about this Wiley situation. "No-one can see it from his point of view – especially in this scene," Skepta retorts and continued to explain "no-one has been here for as long as him to comment. I understand what he’s saying though." Its clear the pressure on and off the roads is felt by most grime artists and the ability to deal with growing fame is often apparent.
Whether it’s with lyrical content or simply turning up for the odd interview (or a front cover shoot), the Tunnel Vision creator is always being talked about. "I get a bit weird with people sometimes too" Skepta states of his feelings towards doing press, "but that is just because it gets frustrating. Wiley says he’s gonna do interviews this time around so we’ll see." We will see very soon as Playtime is Over is around the corner.
We have Tunnel Vision’s 1-5 in our possession and on a whole they’re very good. How will Playtime… sound? The impending follow up to Treadin On Thin Ice and Da Second Phaze? Skepta reassures the RWD team, "Yeah, I’ve heard it… it’s big."
Skepta’s debut long player Greatest Hits is well on the way he leaves us with "Yeah, it’s NASA" Not entirely sure what that meant we assume the album is great. But what does this ‘NASA’ actually mean? "JME, me and everyone just made it. It’s about being so high in the game we’re in space. We can’t even see anyone."
The Rules & Regulations mixtape is out now on Roll Deep Recordings and Roll Deep’s next single Celebrate is out April 9.
