Last Word: Bigg Snoop Dogg
Artist: Snoop Dogg

One of hip hop’s most recognised rappers, Snoop Dogg truly is the shizzle. On the eve of his new album The Blue Carpet Treatment, we pop to Denmark to let the Boss Dawg tell it like it is. Interview By Hattie Collins

When did you last party?

Last night baby! I had a little party for my new album out here in Copenhagen. I had a good time, it was nice. You were there, right? Did you have a good time?

I did indeed, thanks. Last time you were in the hood?

I’m there all the time - it’s local to me. That’s why on this album, I got to give them something as well. I can’t look past them because I made it and I’m at a certain level. You could say I’m pop; I sell records like a pop star. At the same time, I got to make records for the hood because that’s what I am.

Last time you saw Game?

I saw my lil homey the other day. We just did that song Gangbangin’ 101, and we did that cos a lot of people are influenced by what they see. It’s bad enough that we don’t get along. Why don’t we get along? We don’t know. So lets give them a reason to, rather than ‘We not supposed to hang with y’all cos y’all wear red and y’all say blood.’ We all black. We all people.

Last time someone called you an icon?

(Laughs). Nah... I don’t even get a chance to look at my career like that. I don’t really get a chance to see my sh*t because I’m always trying to stay ahead of the game and do what’s next. I got to stay busy cos I don’t know that word retirement.

Last time you fell off?

I don’t never worry about falling off, cos that’s losing touch with the people that make you who you are. I’ll never do that.

Last time someone recognised you?

It’s not the most recent but it’s funny. I went to a gas station to put some gas in my car. This lady rolled up on the side of me and said ‘My nine month old baby loves your music.’ I was like ‘Would you stop lying.’ She pulled the 9 month old baby out of the car and the baby pointed at me and said ‘Snoop Dogg.’ I couldn’t believe that sh*t. For real. Motherf*cker couldn’t even hold his neck up he was like ‘Snoop Dogg!’

Last time you saw Dre?

Last week when we finished up the record, Imagine. We trust each other and I don’t have no problem taking no orders. Especially from someone who knows what they’re talking about. If he tell me ‘You need to erase that rap and come back again, matter of fact, let Doc right it for you’ I don’t get offended. We know we on the same team and we’re bringing back the championship. You gotta learn how to take constructive criticism though if you plan on being here for a long time.

Last time uptight parents got worried about you coaching their kids?

(Laughs) In the beginning they didn’t really understand me cos lot of the time I get more negative press than positive press and it’s kids ,so I can understand that and respect that because I have kids. But once they got chance to see my passion and my love for these kids and the ethic that I put into my coaching they cool. Snoop the rapper sometimes gives off a wrong impression cos he don’t give a f*ck. But Coach Snoop, he has a heart.

The Blue Carpet Treatment is out now!!!
