Aldershot are hoping to extend the suffering of Manchester United following their record breaking defeat at home to local rivals Manchester City yesterday afternoon by toppling them in the Carling Cup tomorrow night.

You may not have heard, but Premier League champions Manchester United suffered a humiliating drubbing at the hands of local rivals Manchester City yesterday afternoon…oh you heard? We’re still in shock. Sir Alex Ferguson will be demanding an immediate response to the “biggest defeat” of his career on Tuesday night when his side face League 2 Aldershot who will be hoping to secure an upset at the Recreation Ground.

Before United suffered their shock defeat this weekend Aldershot’s Ben Herd spoke about the prospect of beating United in front of the Shots home crowd “It would be stuff dreams are made of, it would be by far the biggest achievement of my career and probably forever really, so it would be a momentous night and achievement if it was to happen.” Shots top goalscorer Danny Hylton is hoping to score a career highlight goal “Scoring against Manchester United would be an unbelievable feeling, it’s indescribable.”

Ahead of welcoming the Premier League champions both Herd and Hylton were asked about who they’re most looking forward to playing against “I would love to play against Ashley Young as I was at Watford with him from the age of 8 -20, but I don’t think he would play – but that would be the one” offered Herd “Probably someone like Michael Owen, [not Rooney?] ah yeah but he’s not going to play, but Michael Owen realistically.”

Do you think Aldershot can cause an upset on Tuesday?
