NEWS : Amy Adams Cast As Lois Lane In Zack Snyder’s Upcoming Superman Reboot

With critics divided on his latest film Sucker Punch, Zack Snyder is pushing ahead with his Christopher Nolan produced reboot of Superman which already has Henry Cavill installed as the Man of Steel.

Superman, in our humble opinion, has never been done justice by Hollywood. While Superman III takes some beating as far as being the worst Superman film goes, the most recent incarnation Superman Returns almost certainly takes the prize as the most boring superhero film in recent times. It’s no doubt a difficult proposition, taking the almost entirely infallible Clarke Kent and developing a story of interest in under two hours, we understand that, but hopefully with the overseeing eye of Christopher Nolan, 300 and and Sucker Punch director Zack Snyder can tap into the appropriate darkness and menace that all Superman films have so far lacked.

Fresh from a heavily praised performance in Oscar winning The Fighter, Amy Adams has been cast as Lois Lane in the upcoming flick. This won’t be Amy’s first run-in with Superman having appeared in an episode of Smallville way back in 2001.

The LA Times’ Geoff Boucher offers that Snyder let Adams know by phone while promoting Sucker Punch in Paris that she’d landed the role before telling the paper about the decision “There was a big, giant search for Lois,” Snyder says. “For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it.”

Snyder’s following the Nolan school of promo by leaking very little information about the role of Lois Lane in the film “It goes back to what I’ve said about Superman and making him really understandable for today. What’s important to us is making him relevant and real and making him empathetic to today’s audience so that we understand the decisions he makes. That applies to Lois as well. She has to be in the same universe as him in tone and substance.”

The new Superman movie is expected in cinemas Winter 2012.
