NEWS : Roll Deep Given The Green Light For Second Number One

Written by Jerry Gadiano on 20 Aug 2010

It seems like only yesterday when Roll Deep were on the grind and spitting some of the toughest bars on pirate radio and now the East London collective are in line for the their second number one with Green Light

This year has been a good one for Roll Deep, early in the year they took the UK Charts by storm reaching the coveted number one spot with Good Times and now their follow-up single Green Light is set to follow in it’s success.

The boys are adamant on working with British Talent for now, “We haven’t got any American artists working with us on the album, we’re trying to use as much of the UK talent as we can at the moment because there’s so much of it,” says Target ”We’ve been working with Eliza Doolittle and getting in some of the up and coming UK talent, it is something we’re definitely keen on. People like Jodie Connor, Cherri V and Tania Foster who hopefully are to go on to get big careers of their own”.

The Roll Deep veteran goes on to explain that “At the moment the UK, our thing, is wiping the floor with American artists and we just wanna keep representing that and helping everyone to get a chance to do their thing as well”.

Despite their well deserved success Roll Deep have promised not to stray from the original grime sound which made them early underground heroes, in fact the band of brothers are hoping to educate new listeners on the authentic grime sound. “We’re never going to turn our back on Grime music, there’s plenty of that on the new album,” Target Explains “In fact, we want our new audience to check out the Grime stuff, we want to make sure people know the history and where we’ve come from”.

Look out for Winner Stays On which is set to hit the shops on the 25 October.
