He’s toured with the likes of De La Soul, his current single Cause And Effect was directed by his friend, the late actor, Heath Ledger and has been attracting a lot of attention, Nardene Scott chatted to N’FA (No Fixed Abode) to find out what’s next on the agenda.

Yeah I’m good thanks.
Your video for the current single, Cause and Effect has been causing a lot of buzz recently; your late friend Heath Ledger directed the video in his garage. It was made before he started to film Dark Knight but do you think that had an influence over the style of the video?
Yeah, I’m glad its creating a buzz which is amazing, and is the main point really, you want to get it out there to everyone. Yeah, I don’t think its dark like negative dark its all positive energy, it wasn’t like a planned thing leading up to Dark Night but I don’t know it must have been like the feeling in the air at the time. I think its a cool video and it gives you an insight into Heath’s directorial style…I mean it would have been great to see more, I know he was doing a few videos at the time and I think mine was one of the more bolder ones, definitely.
You grew up in Australia but you now live in London, what is the hip hop scene like in Australia, anyone RWD should be looking out for?
Yeah, I was in a band called 1200 Techniques back in Australia. There’s great people out there just doing their thing, great producers and very amazing beat writers and they’re just out there, doing their thing.
We know you were part of the Australian hip hop group, 1200 Techniques a while back what made you leave the band and go it alone?
Well, it’s a strange one because I never really split up from the band at the time when we were starting to do bigger things I didn’t feel like the people around us were really with us and in some way we got a little manipulated along with too much pressure from the label who was working with us. We stopped enjoying it for what we originally did it for…you know what though it happens a lot in the music industry. While we were having this break I hooked up with people like D Bridge as well, started working on songs and other projects so I thought I’ve got a lot of family here in the UK so why not see if I can do some music here. I know how short life can be and I just wanted to be around them
Is there anyone in the UK you are feeling?
Yeah man I’ve always been interested in artists from the UK even when I was mad young, and then you’ve got people that have come up like Professor Green, he’s nuts I’m a big fan of like Foreign Beggars, I’m really into that whole side of it, I think there’s a lot of other cats doing well too with the club, sort of bass music but I’m guess I just click more immediately with the hip hop scene.
The single Cause and Effect was produced by Drum and Bass producer D Bridge who has influenced the likes of Chase & Status and Pendulum. How did you manage to work together to produce a bass heavy hip hop track?
My brother, he was working on this project with Digital Nation which lasted for like eight or nine months and they also worked with the likes of D Bridge, sort of around the same time when I came to London. I had met his brother before and I guess it was just one of those organic things that just happened; the first time we went in on the track we left it and the second time we came back to it, that’s when D Bridge added all the Batman sounds and the big bass.
There’s also remixes of Cause and Effect from Sticky and Roots Manuva what was that like working with both of those guys?
Yeah well I was talking to my manager about a few people I would like to do remixes with and just called them up and it happened really they said “lets do it”.
You’ve supported the likes of De la Soul, LL Cool J and Linkin Park who are your favourite artists that inspire you the most?
I’m really influenced by quite a lot of the live shows really like I saw Burning Spear in Jamaica and that totally blew my mind! I listened to him when I was younger which led on to hip hop like Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul and other bands like Leaders Of The New School where Busta Rhymes came from.
Following your single Cause and Effect what else can we expect from you is there an album in the works?
An album…I have had three or four albums in the works for so long, we’re looking to get out another single on the new label Twisted Kids and just keep building up. I just need to get all the right tunes together so hopefully my album will be out later this year I’m just trying to create some new flavas.
Where can people catch you live and what can they expect from one of your performances?
I got quite a few shows coming up all over, from Bristol to Yoyo’s on July 15th and then later, Strawberry Fields. I mean we have done a lot of shows but I like the unexpectedly good ones; like, a gig we did at 93 Feet East in Shoreditch and people were coming up to me afterwards and saying they weren’t even into hip hop but they really enjoyed the show. I was totally overwhelmed…so our shows you can expect a lot of energy, we have the four-piece live band set up, we just have fun and let it all go…just let it happen. All my songs sound different so the show is cool we just vibe of the crowd.
