It was an electrifying taster of Young London Into Music, part of the Create10 festival, delivering the best home grown arts and music from east and south east London with events programmed from June 17 to 1 August.
Shola Ama, accompanied by the UD Vocal Collective and rising star Shazar gave a sneak preview of her new single DJ Play, a fiery and assertive track that shows she’s grown up a lot from the sweet voiced girl who sang the Number 1 hit You Might Need Somebody.
Princess Nyah got the crowd on their toes, by asking for a volunteer to replace Ghetts who couldn’t be there. The result was one of the best moments of the night – completely improvising an amazing rap sequence, spitting bars so fast the audience were mesmerised, the unnamed star from the crowd almost stole Princess Nyah’s thunder on the riot-starter Hooligans.
Bigga Blocco, the steel band mentored by Bigga Fish, gave their brilliant fusion of Brazilian, African and funk beats astounding anyone who has ever tried to play the drums with their expert timing and pace and getting the crowd dancing.
Maxsta, fast rising grime star who has already achieved an amazing amount for his 18 years of age, having featured on tracks by Wiley, Ghetts, Tinie Tempah, Fumin and Chipmunk to name a few, gave a great performance of his single East London Is Back, a homage to his hometown area.
The first event for Young London Into Music is this weekend at Paradise Gardens where UD Vocal Collective, Bigga Blocco will perform as well as Fran and Josh, Groove Control, Max Pashm and The Roma Diamonds, Mecca To Medina and E17 Crew and Whats Next Collective.
