For those who woke up thinking today was just a normal day you’d be very much mistaken. Steve Jobs and the forward-thinking goons over in San Francisco, California have done changed the world again. Read on as we take you through our favourite Apple iPhone 4 features…
We know, we know. Apple have announced the successor to the extremely popular iPhone 3GS and meanwhile every BlackBerry, Nokia, Samsung, HTC, LG in the world just had a mini heart attack. They should be scared too as the iPhone 4 is packing some SERIOUS features. They’re resolved some basic things too and the new phone – available in white and black – has lots to shout about.
“This is one of the most beautiful designs you’ve ever seen,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs at yesterday’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). “This is beyond a doubt one of the most precise and beautiful things we’ve ever made.”
So here is what’s inside;
Retina Display
Despite sounding like something Specsavers use to showcase different pairs of glasses, ‘retina display’ is the name of the iPhone screen and is ‘years ahead’ of other displays. With 326 pixels per inch they have a point too. Jobs even goes on to say, “Text looks like you’ve seen it in a fine printed book — unlike you’ve ever seen on an electronic display before,” and continued with, “Once you’ve used a retina display you can’t go back.” On the apple site they compare the iPhone 4 screen to the iPhone 3G screen, all we can say is… wow.
Two Cameras
The iPhone packs a 5MP camera with LED flash, compared to 3MP of the 3G, and it also shoots HD video. It also has a front cam for what they call FaceTime (video calling). The iPhone 4 also has built-in iMovie so you can edit HD movies on the move. In the words of JME (a well-known iPhone fan) that info is ‘Serious’.
Multitasking
Finally Apple have caught up with just about every mobile phone and users of the new operating system (iOS 4) will be able to work and/ or play like never before. Send emails, listen to music, blog, visit your favourite site (RWDmag.com) all at the same time. This apparently won’t drain the battery too much, which was the main reason why previous iPhone’s haven’t been able to multitask. Well played Apple, welcome to 2010.
It’s Bloody Thin
The iPhone 4 is just 9.3mm think. How they have sandwiched all of the above – including the new super-fast A4 processor – between two ultra-strong toughened glass plates is beyond us. The outside of the unit is a stainless steel band which is actually the antenna. “It’s never been done before and it’s really cool engineering,” Jobs said.
All of the above basically means… we ALL want one. The iPhone 4 is out June 24.
