Kicks N Canvas opened in Shoreditch with a monumental bang as 1,500 of London’s finest hit the Gallery on Redchurch Street to see how street artists would handle customising a fresh set of trainers.

SoleHeaven has a history of commissioning some of the most jaw-dropping customs kicks, but they wanted to see what street and contemporary artists would conjure up.

The artist line up is amazing and includes big names like INSA, Goldie, Anthony Lister, Jon Burgerman and Dan Baldwin and they quality of the work is outstanding. They have all added their own very unique twist to proceedings include Zoot to burnt his kicks to a crisp.

Ben Frost has added his usual style of twisted mayhem by writing crude and perverse messages on the trainers, We’d love to repeat them online, but we can’t – you need to see them in person.

After sounding out the crowd it was clear that the favourites were Goldie and Mr Jago for their wearable designs, but Benedict Radcliffe and Jon Lawrence stole the show for their pure skill and craftmenship.

The boys from SoleHeaven and Zero Cool Gallery have kitted out the space with old skool ghettoblasters, kitsch furniture and the tower block style plinths that really add to the urban cultured gem of a show.

All of the work is totally original and available to buy, so get along before it sells out.

This fresh concept captured London’s creative imagination, and we sincerely hope they’re back next year for round 2.
