NEWS : London’s Best Dance Crew 2010 Finals

The show that has taken London by storm, hosts its finals on 30 April 2010 with Victoria Cross medal winner Johnson Beharry presenting the winners’ prize and reality TV show winner Akai Osei of Sky1’s Got To Dance, appearing at the finals at 7.30pm at Fairfields Hall, Croydon.

More than 30 crews, mainly from London, auditioned for this exciting urban dance show, and over the past few months, nine of them have battled to attain the winner’s crown. The winning crew will walk away with the cash first prize of £3000, a series of training programmes in project management, media and business management plus a chance to perform in Italy and the US.

With up to 1,500 people expected to attend the event, it includes includes some very special guests:

  • Former Sugababes singer Mutya Buena
  • Upcoming rapper sensation E.N.V
  • Avant Garde Dance Production
  • Singing group, the Starlight Family, whose album will be out end of May
  • Peridot Dance Troupe who are a collective of 13 male dancers, whose love and passion for their craft has brought them together. They all have individual talents, street-dance, popping, locking, waving and breaking.
  • Other past guests on the show have included singer Shola Ama, Rachel Hylton and Duane La Monte of X Factor fame, Status, the semi finalist group from Got To Dance and Brazilian singing superstar Rodrigo Moratto.

To date the show has significantly raised the profile of up and coming youth talent, whilst providing them with constructive guidance and mentoring to help them to succeed in what is a very tough industry.

Johnson Beharry who on 18 March 2005, was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest military decoration for valour in the British and Commonwealth armed forces, is the first living recipient of the VC in the British Army since Rambahadur Limbu, a Gurkha, in the Indonesia-Malaysia confrontation in 1965. He is one of only seven living recipients of the VC, and the youngest. Johnson believe there is a lot more that can be done to help disadvantage youths in our society. He is keen to become a positive role model raising awareness and knowledge of youth issues in and out of the young community.

Ten year old , Akai Osei, having perfomed to popular acclaim at the semi-finals of the London’s Best Dance Crew on 27  March,  is clearly in demand and will be making a second appearance at the finals on 30 April.

Inspired by dancers, Alyx Davey and Gene Takooree, and organised by entrepreneur, Simon Vandi, the show has stirred a great deal of excitement in the urban dance world, with huge interest coming from Europe and South America. Alyx Davey and Gene Takooree contacted Simon and worked effortlessly with him to make their dream a reality. Simon is a programme management consultant within the investment banking arena managing programs globally. He is also a Reach role model and has fought continuously to help kids from disadvantaged backgrounds to attain a better career focus.

London’s Best Dance Crew provides a platform for talented youth dancers and performers all around London to develop and excel. The aim is to give them the opportunity, assistance, discipline and motivation needed to adapt their talents into life skills that they can benefit them in the future. These skills will  include career, media and business development advice and workshops as well as having fun the whole way through.
