Perez Hilton, real name Mario Lavandeira, the fun-loving celeb-slagging alternative media guru, who blogs unconventionally on celebrity gossip via perezhilton.com, has unveiled plans on a new project.
The new outlet will see him host a music countdown show in the coming months. The show is set to compete directly with host Ryan Seacrest’s popular On Air with Ryan Seacrest, a nationally-syndicated Top 40 radio show that airs on KIIS-FM in Los Angeles, throughout the United States and Canada on Premiere Radio Networks. Hilton has been quoted as saying his new show has been designed to be a ‘cooler alternative to the ‘American Idol’ host’s syndicated Top 40 morning radio show that launched in 2004.
Hilton is hoping to use his music industry links, the super blogger is acquainted with the likes of Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, to provide interesting material, adding some spice and sass to on-air interviews. Hilton says his show will be a platform for interviews as well as a mix of popular and new music. “I want the best songs in the country plus… my own picks – songs that I would love to expose the masses to.” The quirky celeb hunter goes on to explain how he plans to talk more in-depth with artists and ask questions he believes Seacrest would not ask them. An example of this that Hilton gave was, “I want to ask Justin Bieber, ‘Have you seen that website LesbianswholooklikeJustinBieber.com?’ I can make fun of someone and still be a fan.”
Perez Hilton has experience in presenting radio shows, already host of a nationally syndicated show in the United States, Radio Perez. And the blogger’s new ventures won’t stop with the new show, he will be launching a third website besides the original PerezHilton.com and CocoPerez.com (a fashion site), but is playing his cards close to his chest regarding details about that venture. He also launched his own record label, Perezcious Music, in 2009.
