JLS have announced that they are to slam the brakes on their lavish party lifestyles and put some hard studio graft in over the coming months, beginning work on their second album, recording in the States as well as linking up with beat-maker of the moment Labrinth.
Having partied hard since winning two BRIT Awards (Best British Breakthrough group and Best British Single for Beat Again in February, “We’ve had to scale back on the nights out,” Marvin told Newsbeat. “We’ve always been professional but you can’t party all the time or your voice would be moany.” They are also set to work with Labrinth, the producer behind Tinie Tempah’s super-successful, chart-topping single Pass Out.
To date they have sold over one million copies of their debut album, and in a recent interview, the stars were quoted as saying, “We don’t want to take our foot off the gas.” After the success of their self-titled debut LP, the boys are going to America later this year to record tracks for their highly anticipated follow up album. Before their sold-out tour in December they are to work on a whole host of new tunes for the follow up album. Marvin Humes, 24, said, “We’re with Labrinth this week and will be back and forth to LA to work on the album over the summer… It’s likely we’re going to be recording some tracks for our album over there – that’s where the producers are based… The quality will step up as now people have seen our sales figures they’re more open to work with us… We’re doing tracks with Stargate and Toby Gad, who has worked with Beyoncé… Emails are going back and forth with Jason Derulo about setting up time with him too.”
Rihanna reckons the boys have a big future ahead of them in the States and is set to record a song with the group which has been masterminded by hip hop guru Jay-Z. “America has only had a little taste of them so far,” the Rude Boy singer told The Sun. “But give it 18 months and they could be the most famous band in the world.” The Umbrella star continued, “Working with JLS is something that will happen this year. Jay will make stars out of them. He has been a great mentor to me. He has been around long enough to spot real talent and he knows who will become worldwide stars… They can sing, they can dance, they look good, actually they look very good. But more importantly, they look like a group. It doesn’t look like they’ve been put together. It looks like they are meant to be together.”
Despite their list of prospective, high-profiled duets JB revealed that no collaborations have been confirmed for their second album yet.
