“Leicester just doesn’t have that much going on, it’s completely dropped off,” according to dubstep maestro Jakwob, the Midlands bred DJ/ producer went in on Gary Lineker’s city in a recent interview with RWD.
“Apart from a few DJ’s that pass through every month there’s nothing there! I can’t really make connections there, it just happens to be in London where I’ve made a lot of connections also Bristol and Manchester they’ve been good places meeting people.”
It’s hard to believe that Jakwob re-fixed the likes of Ellie Goulding and Temper Trap to produce dubstep anthems whilst up in apparently lifeless Leicester, which also spawned the likes of Kasabian and one half of Basement Jaxx and, erm… Mark Morrison. Ok we see where he’s coming from now.
Jakwob will soon be on the move though and is heading down to Nottingham before the end of the year after university because his “education is the only reason I’m kinda still there.”
Read the full interview with Jakwob in the upcoming April issue of RWD magazine where he gives us the low-down on working with Scorcher and other artists on his upcoming album and how he wants to get in the studio with Snoop.

…But there are a few promoters in the city who really try to progress things!
He has a point in terms of there being a truly active scene where people are constantly trying to progress the local sound. Not enough people go out and support acts when they’re put on either, which puts promoters off booking left of center dance acts.
jakwob go suck ur mum
