NEWS : Behind the Scenes of the B.o.B Interview [BLOG]

Written by RWD on 25 Mar 2010

For those who have seen our infamous post on Twitter – the one about us taking B.o.B (the American rapper who linked up with Giggs on Don’t Go There) fish and chips – here is a detailed account of how, what and more importantly why… words by Liam Tootill

We left the RWD towers in Holborn, on the march to Atlantic Records temporary offices just off Carnaby Street to film an exclusive video interview for RWD TV with rising American hip hop star B.o.B. The walk took us through London’s West End, passing through tourist hotspots such as Covent Garden and Leicester Square, the souvenir shops providing the perfect opportunity for us to pop in and purchase the required ‘Best of British’ props for the interview.

This is what we bought en route…

A portion of Fish and Chips (accompanied by tubs of tartar sauce and mushy peas)

A can of Carling

The Sun newspaper

A novelty Policeman’s helmet

A British souvenir flag

A Mug with the Queen on (to serve B.o.B a classic builder’s brew in)

These items were accompanied by an appropriate England football found somewhere in the RWD office before we left, a small collection of Raj’s music collection (CD’s by Dizzee Rascal, Kano, Wiley and Giggs) and a copy of Russell Brand’s Scandalous DVD.

When we arrived at the building that houses Atlantic Records we made our way upstairs to set up for the interview.

After Danny (Walker) set up the video camera, Raj (Kathwadia) and Adrian (Nettleship, today’s photographer) setup we laid out the props and were ready to roll…

Bobby Ray entered and seemed to be in the mood to have some fun. He sat down next to Raj and the interview began. Raj quizzed the Atlanta rapper about all things British. After B-to-tha-o-to-tha-B helped himself to some traditional British fish and chips, which the rising-star seemed to enjoy (apart from the mushy peas) he washed it down with a builder’s tea (half a cup, loads of milk and about 7 sugars).

After the food and drink, it was time for the rapper to be introduced to some high grade British literature; what better place to start than The Sun newspaper and RWD Magazine.

Now officially up all things British, Raj offered his American counterpart a ‘kick-ups’ challenge. I’m not sure who won but it was fun and games all the same.

And it wouldn’t be playing football, without a beer afterwards to quench the thirst, at this point RWD presented B.o.B with can of good ol’ Carling; with the condition being Bob had to neck it in one.

To find out if Bobby drank the Carling in one or what he actually thought of Blighty wait patiently for the May issue of RWD (out at the end of April).

B.o.B’s album The Adventures Of Bobby Ray is set to be released 25 May 2010.
