Formed in 2008 by young designers Gareth Emmett and Rhys Dawney, Long Clothing has quickly built up a cult following that is stretching across the UK and the rest of the world thanks to their simple – super length skinny fit T-shirts… Interview by Irene Asanji

Long Clothing started out on market stalls around London. Did you ever imagine being distributed in stores worldwide?

It’s quite surreal sometimes to think that people all over the world are wearing our T-shirts, especially when we were only on the market stalls about a year ago.
We’re both dreamers and have always had high hopes for the brand I just don’t think either of us expected things to happen so fast!

Where has your inspiration come from? What are your influences?

We both like over-sized clothing and clean and simple design. We couldn’t find this combination anywhere and that’s why we decided to make Long.

In one way or another I think we’re influenced by everything around us and that can change everyday. For us we just go on our gut and with what we’re feeling at the time.

What was the reason behind designing the entire range in just black and white?

Simplicity. We wanted to create something that was pure, that stood out from everything else we were seeing around us at the time.

Which famous person would you like to see wearing your tees?

We’re not really too bothered about famous people wearing our clothes, we’d rather take pics of us two wearing them and then we can get famous. Ha ha!

What’s next for Long Clothing? Will you branch into jackets and coats, or just focus on the hoodies and T-shirts?

The last 10 months have been manic so we haven’t really had the chance to get as many new products out as we would have liked.  We’ve got some really exciting stuff coming up however and we’re definitely going to branch out in terms of clothing.  How exactly? Well, your just have to wait and see!
