Known for his live mic prowess on the pirates and in the dance, MC Sez is aiming to make a name for his music after spending nearly ‘everyday’ in the studio with
the likes of Ed Case and MC Stormin… image by James Pearson-HowesHi Sez. A lot of people will know you from being on the mic on radio as well as at raves. What’s the biggest gig you¹ve done?
I grew up listening to the pirate stations so I love them. I got involved and evolved with
them as the genres did. I performed in Ayia Napa last year at the Ice Club to thousands only 10 minutes after arriving at my hotel! That was a nice gig, but I enjoy the big crowds and the small ones. I just love performing to people that appreciate my music and talent.
What¹s the difference between MCing at raves and in the studio?
At raves it’s all about the crowd having a good time and enjoying themselves, but when I write songs it’s all about me; my feelings, emotions and experiences that I’ve had. With a track you can express a lot more emotions whereas in a club people are too drunk to take in the words most of the time (laughs).
Why have you named your new album More Than Words? What else have you got to offer the listeners?
ACTION! Skill, feeling, thought and great music of an inspiring artist trying to make his dreams a reality.
What can you tell us about the project? Which producers and artists are you working with?
I’m working with UKG producer Ed Case. I used to listen to his tracks back in the day, so it¹s always nice to work with someone you admire and it lets you know you¹re doing something right. Also I’m working with Delayed Experience, Stormin from Nasty Crew and Hybrid X. I’m always looking for talent to work with.
You’ve made a point of making music from various genres, but what’s your favourite?
That’s a hard question, but I have to say garage and grime tracks. I like a change now and again though.
Can you tell us about the first single from the project; Everyday? It sounds deep.
It’s me expressing my feelings towards the scene as a whole and the how hard it is to get noticed. It’s also about my struggle to be acknowledged as a UK prospect.
And as it’s that time of year, what would you like in your Christmas stocking?
A brand new hard top BMW Z4 please! (laughs) Nah… more support from the major DJs in the scene would be a nice look.
And what are your hopes for 2010?
More fans, more shows, more sales and all round progress on my art in every aspect possible.
The Wanna See You EP with Ed Case is available now on iTunes, the Everyday EP will be out in March 2010 with the album More Than Words soon after.
