Music’s biggest stars came out last Saturday night for the ‘Hope For Haiti Now’ telethon which was broadcasted on MTV. According to MTV.com they were able to raise more than $58 million (£35.9 million) which has set a record for any relief disaster appeal.Donations are still pouring in for the relief organisation and the ‘Hope For Haiti Now’ album is the biggest one-day album pre-order in iTunes history and is currently #1 in the iTunes album chart.
The night was led by Wyclef Jean in New York City, the former Fugee and proud Haitian native has been campaigning endlessly and making the world aware of the crisis in his home nation. There were also performances from John Legend, Mary J Blige, Justin Timberlake, Shakira, Madonna, Beyonce, Coldplay, Stevie Wonder, Taylor Swift, Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Hudson who all came out in full force to support the cause. Also Jay-Z, Rihanna, Bono and The Edge preformed their group track Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour) live from London.
Other guest stars included Former President Bill Clinton, Ben Stiller, Brad Pitt, Chris Rock, Halle Berry, Samuel L Jackson, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio and Muhammad Ali.
Donations are still being taken just go to www.hopeforhaitinow.org to do your bit. The album Hope For Haiti Now is available on iTunes now as well and all proceeds made from the album will go directly to Hope For Haiti Now.
