X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, who won the show in 2008, has logged her confusion over the Rage Against The Machine Christmas campaign to keep Joe McElderry off the top spot.
The singer told BBC Newsbeat that she found the campaign “weird” considering the two acts are both on the same label. “I think it’s more weird that it’s a big campaign with a Sony versus Sony artist. That’s what I find strange.
“I think Joe McElderry should be number one because it’ll be his first number one, bless him. I support him dearly.
“It’s all about what the public want Christmas number one to be – nobody else can dictate that, it’s what they want to buy. End of.”
When asked to think back to how she would have coped with such a Facebook and Twitter rebellion, she added: “I would have been upset for sure but what people fail to remember is that The X Factor isn’t forcing someone to be number one.
“This is not what the show is about; it’s not about forcing people to buy into the single.”
So who should scoop the coveted crimbo top spot? Rage Against The Machine with Killing in the Name or Joe McElderry and The Climb?
