Bought up in Nashville and now living the good life in LA, Hattie Collins meets the Prince-stalking, beer-loving Ke$ha…

You have to feel sorry for 22 year-old singer/ songwriter Ke$ha Rose Seburt; she lives such a dull life. Imagine it; waking up every day surrounded by your beautiful friends in a beautiful house in beautiful LA, partying all night, writing tracks for people like Miley Cyrus by day. It must be so, well, boring? “I guess,” she laughs, taking a swig of eau mineral in an upmarket hotel room in London. “I hang out with models and actresses and musicians, so me and my friends run around, meeting boys, partying, dancing, having an amazing time and looking cool. But now I’m running around the world doing shows so I can’t do it as much.” Our hearts bleed. But she isn’t exaggerating; right now the ’78 Trans-Am owning blond is indeed in demand. Having been spotted in her native Nashville by hit songwriters Dr. Luke (Katy Perry/ Pink) and Max Martin (Britney/ The World), it wasn’t long before the star-makers hooked her up with some writing credits; featuring on Flo Rida’s Touch Me, she was also set to work writing for the likes of Miley and goth girl’s, The Veronicas. Given she’s been described as a mix of Madonna and the Beastie Boys (aka quite cool), did she have concerns that some people might find her choices, well, cheesy? “If I can write a song for a metal band, that’s awesome. There are no boundaries in my mind about genres. I pull influence from rap, from old-skool punk bands and I love pop music.”

After getting her PRS game up, Ke$ha moved to LA where she had to waitress while waiting for the cheques to come in. In the interim, she “snuck” into Prince’s house to see if the Purple One fancied doing a song with her. “I didn’t break in, the door was open, so I just walked in,” she remembers casually. “He was playing guitar. I listened to him for a while, and gave him a CD. I haven’t heard from him yet though,” she laughs. More fool Prince; aptly described by her Columbia Records label boss Barry Weiss as a cross between the Material Girl and the Brooklyn rap trio, the Kasabian, Miike Snow and Arctic Monkey fan is causing a real stir with her in-your-face songs that celebrate “Boys, boots, beer, boobs, blow jobs… Anything beginning with a ‘B’ really,” she decides. Her lead single, Tik Tok, describes waking up “feeling like P. Diddy” and “brushing your teeth with Jack Daniels,” but there’s more to this girl than just good times. “I wrote every song on this album so it’s a really accurate description of my life over the last four years,” she points out. “I’ll write about a guy, I’ll write about a girl, I’ll write about a bar, I’ll write about an old guy hitting on me (Dinosaur)…” If it’s anything like her MySpace promises, the album should be, well, explosive. “Like ‘God Having an orgasm’, yes,” she grins, referencing her MySpace. “I think people that like to dance, people that believe in magic, people that like glitter, people that drink beer, people who don’t drink beer, people who like animals…” She pauses for a affirmative grin. “All of those people will like my album,”
